1. a sloping edge or surface. There is often a bevel on the frame of a picture, on a mirror, or on a piece of plate glass.

3. an instrument or tool for drawing or measuring angles. A bevel is also used for adjusting the surface of work to a particular angle. It consists of a flat rule with a movable arm pivoted at one end.
